COE Advising Policies
The College of Engineering has policies in place to help students stay on track with their degree requirements. These guidelines outline important benchmarks, expectations, and steps to take if you need additional support. Please review the policies below carefully, to ensure you understand how they apply to your academic progress.
Degree Progress Policy
First-Time Engineering freshmen pre-majors and engineering transfer students must complete the Engineering Degree Progress Requirements within their first academic year. At the end of the second full semester, typically Spring, students who have not met the requirements must either declare another major or meet with an Academic Advisor from the Engineering Student Success Center (ESSC) to determine if the student鈥檚 performance in the courses merits an additional semester to complete these requirements. Such students must submit a Degree Progress Extension Petition with the College of Engineering Dean鈥檚 Office.

Extension to Degree Progress Policy
According to the Degree Progress Policy mentioned above, students in the College of Engineering are expected to complete MATH 122: Calculus 1 by the end of their first year. Engineering students who have not completed Calculus 1 by the end of their spring semester, must fill out this short form, to help us understand their summer plans and support them in staying on track:
MATH 122 Degree Progress Form:
Deadline to Submit Form: June 15th
If students can鈥檛 complete Calculus 1 this summer: Students may request an Extension to Degree Progress Policy through the same form. If approved, students will be permitted one additional semester to complete Calculus 1. Please note that extension requests will be reviewed by the associate dean and are not guaranteed. Extension approvals depend on student's GPA and satisfactory progress in major courses.
