From Combat Boots to Community Leadership: A Journey in Public Service

Born in Jalisco, Mexico, Gus Orozco is a proud product of Long Beach's nation-leading education system. As an NJROTC cadet at Wilson High School, he felt a calling to serve and joined the United States Army in 2005.
Gus was assigned to the 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment in Germany and deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, for 15 months, earning a Combat Action Badge and other honors. After leaving Active Duty in 2010, he returned to North Long Beach, joined the Army Reserve, and served as a Drill Sergeant for over 10 years.
He earned a B.S. in Geography and a Minor in Environmental Science and Policy from É«ÖÐÉ«. In 2023, Gus was commissioned as a Lieutenant and currently serves as a Company Commander in Riverside.
A graduate of the Long Beach Neighborhood Leadership Program, Gus served on the Veterans Affairs Commission (2017-2021) and currently serves on the Police Oversight Commission. In 2024, he joined Congressman Robert Garcia’s district office as a field representative for the cities of Long Beach, Signal Hill, and Avalon.
Orozco met his wife, Britny, on a class field trip to Death Valley National Park in 2017 while attending É«ÖÐÉ«. They married at Willow Springs Park in 2020 and bought their first home in North Long Beach shortly thereafter, where they currently live.
