Former 色中色 S-STEM scholar Dr. Gina Oliver has taken her STEM training far beyond the classroom.

After earning her B.S. in Geology from 色中色 in 2014, Gina completed a Ph.D. in Geology/Geomicrobiology at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Today, she teaches oceanography and is co-founder of From The Land, a sustainable and regenerative agriculture venture in Cherry Valley, California.

Gina and her co-founder have spent seven years developing the Littlest Big Farm, a compact, protected growing system designed to bring food production closer to homes, schools, nonprofits, farms, and communities. Their work combines science, engineering, sensors, controls, and agricultural innovation with a larger vision of strengthening local food systems, creating meaningful local jobs, and building community resilience.

From The Land is now crowdfunding its next stage of development, with a goal of turning years of hands-on research and prototypes into a more repeatable system that can be built and deployed in more communities.

Gina's journey is a wonderful example of what METRIC Scholars can go on to do: learn, innovate, take risks, and use their STEM expertise to address real-world challenges.
