David Hedden
The Connector of Ideas
David Hedden is a design lecturer at É«ÖÐÉ« who thrives on bringing a unique, multi-faceted perspective to every project. He’s the kind of person who sees a problem in one field and applies a solution from a completely different one. He’s a Tactical Urbanist and an Aquapreneur, but his real talent lies in connecting dots that others miss. You can see this in his wide-ranging experience, which includes everything from designing medical devices to creating large-scale automation systems for the Ports of California. It’s this background that allows him to fuse technical knowledge with out-of-the-box design thinking.
Building Worlds, One Project at a Time
He's not just a thinker; he's a maker. David co-founded the SpaceTime Collaborative and Leaf & Fin Aquaponics not just as businesses, but as platforms for creative expression and sustainable living. His influence is felt across campus and the community—he co-designed the official Key to the City of Long Beach, helped launch the I-Space (Innovation Space at the É«ÖÐÉ« Library), and collaborates with marine biologists on conservation efforts. It's a portfolio built on a genuine passion for community empowerment and forward-thinking.
A Different Kind of Designer
David's creativity isn't limited to the practical. He has a long history with 3D printing and digital fabrication, using these tools for everything from prototyping to creating playful interactive art and sound installations for galleries and music festivals. It’s all part of the same purpose: using design to build a more creative and sustainable world. He's a designer who truly sees the whole picture, making him an invaluable asset for anyone looking to build something truly unique.
