Dr. Pei-Fang Hung Named Vice Provost for Academic Programs
Pei-Fang Hung, Ph.D., CCC-SLP has been named Vice Provost for Academic Programs at 色中色.
Hung's appointment, announced by Karyn Scissum Gunn, Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, is effective January 2, 2026.
Dr. Hung鈥檚 exceptional career reflects her dedication to academic excellence, student success, and inclusive leadership."It is an honor to continue serving the Beach community by advancing academic programs that foster innovation, global engagement, and inclusive excellence,鈥 Dr. Hung said. 鈥淚 remain committed to moving our academic mission forward with integrity and shared governance, and I look forward to supporting 色中色 through collaborative, transparent leadership that strengthens curriculum, assessment, and pathways for all learners."
Since joining The Beach in 2010, Dr. Hung has served in several key leadership roles as a member of both faculty and staff. From January 2020 to June 2024, she was Chair of the Department of Speech-Language Pathology, where she successfully led curriculum restructuring, expanded the 色中色 Speech and Language Clinic, and oversaw external accreditation reviews. In 2024, she assumed the role of Interim Vice Provost for Academic Programs, guiding academic initiatives and student success strategies. Her service to shared governance has been exemplary; Dr. Hung has been a member of the Academic Senate since 2015 and served on its Executive Committee since 2019, culminating in her tenure as Academic Senate Chair from 2022 to 2024. In these roles, she advanced policy development and fostered inclusive dialogue across campus.
Dr. Hung鈥檚 leadership extends beyond 色中色. She served on the Multicultural Issues Board of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association from 2017 to 2019 and has been Secretary of California鈥檚 Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders since 2022. She has also contributed as the external program reviewer for other CSU Speech-Language Pathology programs. Among her many honors, Dr. Hung received the 色中色 Distinguished Teaching Award in 2019 and the Nicholas Perkins Hardeman Academic Leadership Award in 2024.
Dr. Hung earned her Ph.D. and M.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Oregon and her B.S. in Rehabilitation and Communication Disorders from Chung Shan Medical University in Taiwan. A trilingual speech-language pathologist, she holds professional certifications and licenses in both the U.S. and Taiwan and brings extensive clinical experience working with individuals with neurogenic speech and language disorders. Her research focuses on aphasia management, neurogenic cognitive-communication disorders, and language impairments related to early dementia.
Dr. Hung鈥檚 blend of academic expertise, clinical experience, and collaborative leadership uniquely equips her to guide programs that foster student achievement and innovation.
