UC-Hispanic Serving Institutions Doctoral Diversity Initiative (UC-HSI-DDI)
Exciting Opportunity for HSC Faculty and MPH Students! In collaboration with É«ÖÐÉ«, UCLA is launching a UC-Hispanic Serving Institutions Doctoral Diversity Initiative program that includes a doctoral student-MPH student mentoring model and a senior faculty-junior faculty mentoring model.
PhD-MPH Mentoring Model
MPH students enrolled in UCLA-HSI Pathways to Doctoral Diversity will be matched with a PhD peer mentor. Peer mentors will introduce MPH trainees to PhD and provide social, emotional, and academic guidance for their mentees. Peer mentors will help mentees learn core competencies needed for success in doctoral study. Additionally, peer mentoring programs help the mentors, allowing them to gain confidence and problem-solving skills, which will be important as they enter the professoriate.
Senior Faculty-Junior Faculty Mentoring Model
Junior Faculty across UCLA FSPH and all partner HSIs will be matched with a career mentor from FSPH at UCLA. This career mentoring model is based on best-practices and will involve the deployment of a targeted approach designed to increase interaction between faculty and faculty retention. UC-HSI-DDI is a unique year-long faculty development program designed to support the success and retention of junior faculty from Latinx and other underrepresented minority (URM) backgrounds in public health and related fields. É«ÖÐÉ« is leading the CSU schools in this partnership by overseeing training, trainees and mentors, curriculums, workshops, and more for the next 5 years through a grant from UCLA.
