WGSS 496-- Internship: Feminist Community Praxis

All WGSS majors are required to complete WGSS 496 as part of their major requirements. Listed below is important information on the course and requirements for WGSS 496.

WGSS 496 is designed for students to obtain knowledge and practice of interning with an organization that addresses issues related to gender, sexuality, equity, and justice, broadly defined. Students undertake supervised work in many fields, including community organizations, social service agencies, public offices, law offices, medical research, and legislative initiatives. An internship is different from paid professional labor, volunteer work, or community service learning; it is intended to provide concrete work experiences that will be valuable in identifying the next steps in students’ professional lives. While interning, students are expected to balance classes, readings, and assignments to think through internship challenges, possibilities, and strategies. This course will allow students to critically explore and develop self-assurance and self-reliance on post-graduation objectives, professional skills, and personal goals.

  1. Select an internship. For a full list of internships our students' have participated in, .
  2. Students must complete 50 internship hours over the course of Spring semester.
  3. Students must complete their internship by the end of Spring semester.
  4. Internships placement may not take place with friends or family.

Students will receive course credit based on the number of hours logged, an evaluation by your supervisor, and dossier documents.
