Curricular Governance
Nearly all curricular processes at É«ÖÐÉ« require multiple levels of approvals from different layers of the university.
A typical change sees the idea start with department faculty (referred to as the originator) and then after review and potential edits, earn approval through a department curriculum committee. After department chair or program director approval, most changes require approval of the college curriculum committee. Some colleges have multiple committees for this review depending on proposal's subject or the intended level of the course/program. With college-level acceptance, most proposals require approval from an appropriate college Associate Dean. All curricular processes should be reviewed before final certification by the Department of Academic Programs.
Some changes, such as the implementation of a new degree program, require multiple stages of review by the É«ÖÐÉ« Academic Senate and its subcommittees and/or the CSU Chancellor's Office.
Curriculum Calendar documents detail what the expected timeline for a curricular process can be. It is important to keep in mind that some changes can take over a full year to complete even after earning college approval, due to the review necessary by external groups (e.g., Chancellor's Office, WSCUC, Academic Senate).
